How to Recycle Thin Plastics
Many thin plastics can be properly recycled but aren't recycled because consumers such as ourselves just don't do it!
Remember back before we all had recycling bins that the local council collected on bin day?
Some areas have several bins, others don't - I'd love to have more bins than we do.
We currently have a brown bin for non-recyclables and a green bin for recycling. However, some things don't go in this - including thin plastics like carrier bags and film food lids.
Instead, we are able to collect these together and take them to The Coop - our local shop - where they have a specific container to take these thin plastics.
These plastics just take a little more effort to recycle rather than to just bin.
We have a bag in the cupboard under our sink. There we put bread bags, clear film from packaging, waterproof postage bags, etc. When this bag gets almost full it is squeezed small and tied up, and then popped by the front door to drop off at the shop when we next go.
We don't go to buy - we pop in on a walk to drop them off.
I really hope all our population can get into a habit like they did to use the recycling bins.
