Making Pasta

Don't cha just love it when you get to try something new for free?

Today I got to try making pasta for the first time, and I don't know why I've never tried it before!

The recipe we used was 200g 'OO' flour and 2 eggs, mixed together to a dough, then pressed over and over using a pasta machine: although having done this method, it's given me the confidence to try this at home with just my rolling pin.

We made lasagne sheets and I then cut mine into rectangles that I pinched into little bows.

This fresh pasta cooked in around seven minutes in boiling salted water with a splash of oil in it.
I ate mine with a tomato and garlic sauce.

Have you ever made pasta?
What have you tried for free recently?

  1. We got a pasta maker in a car boot sale a couple of years ago. A couple in their 50s were selling it - it had been a wedding present 20+ years earlier and it had never come out of the box! All the original pieces were individually wrapped inside a still sealed box. The seller said she thought life was too short etc etc. We have never looked back since buying it (for the requested price of £1.00!). Love fresh homemade pasta. So our pasta maker wasn't free - but it wasn't far off!

  2. Yes, I make pasta. I usually use just plain flour and it is fine although the 00 flour is really nice. Rolling it should be fine. It is so much nicer than dried pasta.
