Puppy Preparation

So yes, we are getting a puppy.

Regular readers will know that we have a dog - Millie - who is 7 1/2 years old.  She is a cross-bred Border Terrier and Bichon.  She looks like a border terrier, but is fluffier!  Millie is a really playful character, she loves carrots and loves to find a sunny spot indoors to lie and sunbathe!

Then we had Ronnie.  Ronnie came to us last May - he was a crossed Labradoodle with a Whippet.  Such good fun, and a really lovely character.  He and Millie adored each other.  Sadly, Ronnie died in February this year, aged just 10 months.

So.
We spoke to the lady we got Ronnie from.
Ronnie's mum had a litter the year before him - and one of those litter was going to have her first (and only) litter.
We went to see her, and then again once she had given birth to her puppies.

And we have chosen a pup from the litter.

Ronnie's nephew.

So this little chap is called Buster.
He's a labradoodle.
He's named after Buster Moon from the musicals Sing and Sing 2.
He will come to live with us in the middle of May.

We are all very excited.

He won't replace Ronnie.  Nobody could.  But Millie will be happy with another little (taller than her) brother.

I have a puppy prep list -
we need:

. soft crate
. day bed
. pup kibble
. pup toys
. collar and lead

We already have puppy pads.

Anything else you can think of?

  1. How exciting! Our latest puppy is 23 weeks old. They grow incredibly quickly.

We have always found rope tuggers/chews and Kongs useful - they save the furniture! Yakers chews are also good. - quite expensive, but less so than replacing household items.

  2. The only thing I can think of that Buster will need is an abundance of love, but I know he'll have that, so nope, no more ideas! X

  3. Please do not breed and buy while shelter pups die

    1. Hi Anonymous, thank you for your concern. This pup is the only pup we have had who isn't a rescue. Our first pup came from a rescue centre in London, he was 3 months old. Our second dog was 6 years old and came from a local rescue centre. Then we had a rescue dog from Romania - he was 3 years old, we think?
Millie came to us aged 9 months old - she was not from a recue centre, but was up for rehoming locally.
Ronnie was also a rehoming pup - the lady (not a breeder) we got him from had not spayed her bitch in time and she became pregnant. We were very lucky to have Ron free, as we genuinely live on a tiny budget.
I contacted her when Ron was ill then died, to let her know. She was deliberately breeding the other bitch she owns. This is the only pup we have ever bought in this situation. I agree that it is not an amazing way to have a pup - but following what happened to Ron, it is what I wanted to do.
      Kind regards, FMxx
