Obsessions
Obsessions can be healthy ( as long as they don't involve causing harm to people or animals, or Morris dancing...).
I have several obsessions and I thought I'd share some of them with you today.
I am obsessed with orange penguin books. I don't just collect them, when I get to go to a charity shop, it's the first thing I look for. Orange-spined penguin books. They have to be in order on the shelves above my piano, arranged by darkness to lightness of orange spine. I have some really old ones and some really new ones. They were all second-hand to me, and cost pence each to buy.
I am obsessed with drinking tea from a cup; not a mug. Tea in the morning or after three coffee around 11 and from a mug. Tea made in a pot, drank from a cup sat in a saucer. Perfection.
I am obsessed with white flowers in my garden. I don't mind what type of flower it is, and whether annual or perennial; but the flowers in my garden have to be white. White flowers. This makes me very happy and feel very peaceful.
Flies. I am obsessed with flies. Not the big, chunky ones - I don't like them but I can cope with them being around; and I can open a window and waft them out. No, the ones I am obsessed about are the little bas***d ones that sit on your kitchen cupboard, then walk on your window, then fly near your face. You try to catch them in your hand: no luck. You clap your hands together to try and swat them: no luck.
You bang your hand on the cupboard/window/worktop to squash them: no luck.
There have been loads of these little bugs; fruit flies my mum used to call them. I've even used a spatula to try and kill the little buggers.
Ok so.
Obsessions. What do you want to confess to/get off your chest/share?

Best fruit fly trap I ever made. Cut a plastic 375ml water bottle (disposable kind) in half. Turn the top half upside down and insert into the bottom half. Tape together with some clear tape. Put about a 1/2 inch of wine or beer in the bottle and put on the counter. They are attracted to the alcohol , fly in and cant get out.

Barb, I've made one this evening, I'll let you know how it goes!xx
DeleteRibbon and buttons...I have a vast collection.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I have any obsessions, compulsions yes, but that's not as fun!
ReplyDeleteI love a garden filled with white flowers. I've inherited a lot of purple flowers in this garden, it is not a favourite colour of mine but the bees are attracted to them apparently, so they stay!
