What to do on a dreary, miserable day in lockdown...

I don't know about you, but when my wings are clipped* and I'm stuck indoors I feel both relieved and frustrated in equal measures.

Frustrated because I cannot get out and do the things I'd like to do, (walking and looking at beautiful views, for example) but relieved because I don't have to do the things I don't really want to..(cleaning up outside in the back garden).

Today was such a day.

We are in Lockdown 3.0 and quite content to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary, working from home, going out only to walk and exercise the dog.  I can't enjoy a packet of biscuits and a cuppa because I'm on a diet - it's January and I'm female - and so I don't have any sodding biscuits in the sodding house.

And the weather outside is dreary - rain, dark grey skies, rain...

It affects the indoors because I have laundry hanging up in two out of our five rooms, the dog refuses to go out for a wee as she doesn't like getting wet, there is little light indoors so the electric lights are on, it makes my joints ache and me feel cold...yadda, yadda, yadda!

So, as is my way, I look on the brightest side of things.

What did I achieve today rather than what I couldn't, and what do J have to be thankful for

I'm writing to you with laptop on my lap (it's in the name) so I'm lucky to have the electricity and wifi (remember before wifi?  We had to look things up in books or write them down to ask someone when we phoned them after 6 o'clock because that's when it was cheaper).

I have had three hot cups of tea today (with soya milk and no sugar) that have gone down a treat.

I have some cinnamon in my porridge oats today - lovely!

I finished my reading book (from the great haul I got the other day):  A super story.

I took up the hem of a skirt that was too long for me. This had been in the 'waiting' pile for ages...

I did some work on a new jumper Gorgeous GrandDaughter requested - it is pale blue and has a unicorn on the front.

I did some online tuition - a few pennies in the bank.

I didn't have to go out in the foul weather - although it made me think that if this weather was a month ago would we have enjoyed it more with twinkly lights on and Christmas music playing??

Tonight we have fish from the freezer and veg from our fridge - we have enough supplies to keep us going a fair while, with our weekly delivery from Reg the Veg (he's called Lee but that doesn't sound anywhere near fun enough).

I got to speak to my friend on facetime today.

Everyone near to me is doing ok.

When I have felt my lowest, and cannot see a thing that is good in the world, I have given up and gone to bed for the rest of that day.

If you are feeling crappy and fed up, hang on the fact that there is another day tomorrow.

And there will always be biscuits in the future, even if some people don't deem them as essential. (N.B. these are clearly people who have never had PMT..)

Take care,

Tracey xx

  1. Baking is good for the soul. Not the waistline but for the soul. Get some biscuits made!

  2. Sounds like you have a lot to be thankful for, I try to look on the more positive side of life if I can too. Just a suggestion, have you got the ingredients to make some biscuits? Take care.
