Savings out and a little splurge.
October 31st is the end of box number 1 (Christmas box)'s year of savings.
By using the very clever cumulative savings scheme*, we have a total of: £671.95 to spend on Christmas! Tomorrow this box starts again, saving for next Christmas, with 1p being popped in to begin the scheme.
Box number 2 will be opened in time for a summer holiday-type spend of the same amount.
By saving just a few pence a day, it builds up easily to this amount.
As we had vouchers to use by today in Sainsburys, I meal planned for the week and we went there.
Our little splurge from the Christmas money was well spent using a "25% off", and both Man Wonderful and myself left with essential items from our 'need' list: him with a pair of trainers and some PJs, et moi with undies and a pair of leggings.
I picked up a jar of pasta sauce for the hamper I'm making as a Christmas gift for a friend who is struggling a bit.
Each time I go shopping I pick up something extra to go in.
In my next post I'll write a bit about this and a couple of other 'put it together' gifts I'm making for folk this year. Might give someone an idea, who knows?

That is such a good savings idea. I come up with good ideas like that but fail miserably - I do well with saving Nectar points aiming for Christmas but I usually end up spending them in August!! January '17 will be my start date.
ReplyDeleteI save Tesco stamps all year. I just by a few each week and now I have £150.00 to spend but it does limit you to one shop. I shall start a savings box today for next Christmas, although I imagine it gets a lot tougher to find the money towards the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteI put money away each week, for birthdays, Christmas and "other" the "other" pot will pay for an electric fireplace and a shelving unit for the basement.

ReplyDeleteHi there! This sounds really cool...can you just explain please whether it goes '1p on day 1, 2p on day 2, 3p on day 3...or do you double it up so it goes 1p then 2p then 4p etc? I think this would be a good way of getting the (grown-up) kids to save as there's minimal outlay to start and they never seem to have anything left at the end of the week to put away, lol! (One is a student, 0ne is between part-time and full-time work (agency so Subject to what they get) and youngest at college with weekend/holiday job). A year can seem a long way off but it's here before we know it!
