Recycling help

We recycle everything that we can: paper, glass, cardboard and tins are readily recyclable in the local council 'green bin' scheme.
Clothing, shoes, and general household items go on eBay or to a charity shop.
We re-use packaging as packing to send on, or as bin liners, or as poop bags!

But here's my dilemma:

I have a large, very sharp chef's knife that is surplus to requirements.
I've asked everyone if they'd like it: no-one needs another big knife.
The charity shop won't take it (dangerous item).
I can't put it in the recycling bin for fear someone could get hurt on it!
And I can't sell it on eBay!

What do I do with it?

  1. There's some suggestions on.ine, like here. http://www.wikihow.com/Dispose-of-Knives-Safely

Basically, they all say wrap it up well, first in paper, then in bubblewrap, well taped on.

  2. Is there a homeless shelter or similar charity locally who have their own kitchen? They may be worth a try. Otherwise your only option I suspect is to hand it in at your local Police station (most have an amnesty on knives and if you explain you don;t want to risk just disposing of it and it falling into the wrong hands they should be happy to take it). PLEASE don't just put it in the rubbish, no matter how well wrapped it starts off!
