Planting the veg out..

(this isn't my garden - or my photo!)

It was lovely to get messages and comments from folks - many thanks!
Yes, we are fine and doing well.

Since (just before) lockdown, I've had veg seeds a-growing on each back windowsill, and as of today, the first lot are being planted into their own growing beds as they've had some acclimatising done.

We are still in the South-West of England and our climate tends to be a little more generous to planting and growing.

Right now I'm sat with my legs in the sun and Man Wonderful is pottering with pots.

The singular runner bean that ran is in its pot with recycled bamboo sticks to support, four courgettes are in their bed with rough roofing felt and straw (from next-door's guinea pigs - the straw not the roofing felt; they don't use that..) between them to deter slugs.

I have seven French beans acclimatising today (they are still spindly and are not ready to go out yet) but we have been eating home-grown salad leaves and radishes all week!  I do love almost free food!

As I've picked something, I've planted more of whatever-it-is.

Where we live now has the tiniest garden - 8ft by 12ft? - but it is a little sun trap and the neighbours we are attached to each side are lovely.  As they go to the shop they each call out or knock to ask if we need anything, and we reciprocate on the very occasional trip we have made.

Are you growing anything this year?

Tracey xx

  1. I am growing resentment towards the hoards of idiots not socially isolating.

  2. We haven't planted anything outside yet but we are doing well in containers in the garden room. Its a lovely feeling to grow your own.

  4. Courgettes, beans, tomatoes, salad leave sand cucamelons (with my 6 year old). Living or best life at the moment despite this awful situation. May your plants do well :)

  5. Definitely, yes. The allotment (the part that isn't covered over) is ready for planting and the potatoes and broad beans are coming up, plus beetroot, radishes and carrots. AT home thee's fruit and some salad leaves just popping their heads above the soil (so much later than yours)
It's such an exciting time of year!
    xx
