Where it began..

Ever feel that no matter how you manage, there's always something else that comes along just when it's going to be your turn; for a rest, for a bit of fun time, for a bit of extra money?

We love our life, are massively still in love after almost two decades together, and had just reached a point where it could just be our  turn.

Man Wonderful was married for 30 years to his first wife.
They had brought two sons into adulthood, had paid off their mortgage and were thinking about the rest of their lives.
He began again when we got together - almost, as our daughter was 5 - but he went back to thinking about day to day, mortgage, working and saving.
Once our daughter was married and settled with her family, Man Wonderful and I sat together and decided that it was time.
Time for us.
Neither of us prepared for the other to miss out on the chance to have an adventure in this life.

So.

Last summer  we did a major tidy and stock-take of our large four-bedroom house.
Then, I went crazy; selling on eBay and through the local paper like mad, as well as spending Sunday mornings flogging at the local car boot sale.
It took me just over six weeks to raise £3,000.

The house was delightfully empty, and we knew that we were ready to go in search of our new little home.

We met some lovely people along the way  - one chap who had started again after his wife had an affair and he walked out of their house.  He came to buy a 2-seater settee (advertised for £100 and sold for £80) but left with; a lamp, a footstool, bathroom towels, cooking bowls, a set of kitchen knives, dinner plates and bowls!

Yes, I had read the Marie Kondo book.
Yes, it's made a difference to how we now live - but more on that later.

I apologise for the lack of photos - I'm working on that (IT skills a little 'rusty'!) - but promise pics  as soon as I can.

Until the next time, take care all.

  1. Well done on decluttering and selling so much stuff. We are just starting on the same journey. Downsizing from a 3 bed house to a small flat. I'm working on the theory that if I sell 50 items for £1 each, I'll be £50 better off.

  2. So good to see you back!
You have been missed and thought about often.
Looking forward to hearing more news.
    Love Pam in Texas. xx

  3. Lovely to see you back. I'm encouraged to read about your move to a smaller home. We are in the process of down sizing in readiness for hubby retiring. Still in the mulling it over stage, but the thought of all the decluttering is a bit daunting.
