Mistletoe Kiss!

I'm known for being a bit of a noelophile...someone who adores Christmas.

I think it's the organisation that I adore so much.

Gift-wise I shop throughout the year. I wrap up gifts in December.  I like to send cards.  We have decorations in our wee house.  It was only the food/meals to purchase...I plan meals for the week anyway, and do the same Christmas week.

Today we went to a large Coop supermarket on the other side of town, to spend our saving stamps. We buy stamps each time we shop, and fill booklets.  My parents used to do this, and as an adult I did this at a Tesco before I changed to Coop around 6 years ago.

There are a couple of good reasons to save like this: one is that the savings stamps get spent in December: the other is there's 4% more in return.  Each book needs £48 in stamps and returns £50.

I've heard of folk having 'sinking funds', but this seems to be just savings?  Explain if I've got that wrong?

Anyhow. Today's the 19th December, all purchases are almost completed with wrapping up. I have homemade dog biscuits to complete on Friday and wrap in cellophane.

And....for the first time in 8 years I'm cooking our Christmas meal!!

I'm very excited!!

How are you doing?

  1. I've always seen the term 'sinking funds' as meaning the same as 'short term savings'. Money you save for expenses you know are coming up like car tax, insurance bills and, yes, Christmas food.
You had me intrigued so I Googled it and it said 'a fund formed by periodically setting aside money for the gradual repayment of a debt or replacement of a wasting asset.' Also 'Here’s how sinking funds work: Every month, you’ll save a certain amount of money for a specific purpose to use at a later date. That way, you’re saving up small amounts over time, instead of having to come up with a big chunk of money all at once.'
So same thing, different terms. I prefer to think of short, medium and long term savings.

Happy Christmas and I bet your dinner will be lovely. xx

  2. It sounds like you are completely on track. I have some cards and presents to deliver and food to buy. Other than that, I think I am done. I didn't know that the Co-op still sells savings stamps. We don't have one near, but I would definitely consider buying them if we had one locally.
