Today is my 53rd birthday!
I have had the loveliest birthday possible.
No, we didn't jet off to Paris or Monaco, and I didn't step out in Ralph Lauren jeans.
This is me. Frugal Mummy.
I thought I'd share my day with you.
First, I was woken up by Man Wonderful with a lovely cuppa and a birthday card.
He gave me a few pressies: earrings in the shape of treble clefs (I play piano), a gorgeous shade of nail varnish, some funky tights, a bottle of perfume, and a bottle of Plymouth Gin. He knows how to shop!
My granddaughter had a family Christmas crafting activity, so off to the Primary School I went with daughter, and spent a lovely hour making snowflakes and singing Christmas songs.
After this, Man Wonderful asked me what I'd like to do today.
I said I'd like to have an afternoon tea at home, and have a bag of chips by the sea for lunch.
We live in Plymouth, and overlook the Sound, which today was dappled with sunlight despite the cool air! Our dogs sat in the back of the car while MW and I ate our bag of chips, then we walked up and down the Hoe and let the dogs have a good run.
Once home I set about making the afternoon tea-type treat for daughter and grandkids - who came along after school with cards and a couple of gifts.
I set out:
Mini sandwiches - egg mayonnaise / smoked salmon / ham
Cheese - brie / goats / cambazola
Mini Bakewell tarts, sliced Battenburg cake, scones with clotted cream and raspberry jam.
It cost way less than a meal out, and was just perfect.
We finished the tea party by playing charades.
And now I'm sat with my feet up and a wee gins and tonic.
