What a start to 2024!

 Oh dear!

I promise you I don't like to moan; I'm known as a really cheery person - but the last 7 days have been not a great start to 2024.

I began New Year's Day in A&E - no, not with booze or partying - but with a horrid infection.  I had started what I thought was cystitis on 28th December, and Man Wonderful (being his usual wonderful self) popped to the pharmacy and got me a 48 hour sachet treatment plus some paracetamol.  However, it didn't ease.  At all.  I had burning, stinging, 'need a wee urgently/no there's no wee just fire'.  And I felt really weird poorly.

New Year's Eve I went to bed about 8pm to try and get some short bouts of sleep.  But when I woke at 3 and tried to wee it was red.

I phoned 111 and the lovely lady asked me some very specific questions, then told me I needed to get to A&E and start some antibiotics ASAP.

Poor Man Wonderful. (I don't drive!)

So.

The staff were very efficient, and it was hardly any time at all before I was on a drip and having antiBs.  I had to stay in for 48hours, but was home as soon as I could be.

Then yesterday (6th) our boiler began leaking through the bathroom ceiling.  Man Wonderful had to turn off the water feed and investigate, and luckily a plumber came out today to sort it out.

Phew!

We have a spend-free month this month.   I'm buying food and paying bills, but everything else non-essential is a no.  (Granddaughter's birthday is next week, and that is an essential - we can't buy for he in advance as it's so near to Christmas we need to see what she has received before we buy birthday bits.)

Our fruit and veg box comes on Mondays, so I like to make ahead meals on a Sunday using up what we have left over.

I've just made a potato and kale sag aloo, a multi veg (and tinned lentil) curry, and cooked a load of potatoes to mash and use later in the week for fishcakes or falafel.

Phew!

Feels like I've nattered on.

Speak later,

FMxx

  2. Yes, this year isn't off to a great start. I got ghosted by a friend of over 15 years and it was made very clear that we are no longer friends. Three hours later, I found out that my favourite Auntie had died. Then the laptop gave the ghost. Now it's snowing and the temperature is due to drop 30 degrees.

    It can only get better!

  4. How horrible. I hope that things will now settle down and that the rest of the year will be a lot less stressful and pain free. X
