Essential Shopping Only!
Man Wonderful and me (my wonderful self) plan our meals weekly, based around veg that is in season. We buy a veg box from our local farm. It makes it easier to have a list of meals - we also have a couple of 'emergency' meals in our freezer, 'just in case'! Last week when I was in hospital, Man Wonderful was able to have a veg chilli one evening, and a roast meal another night. This means we don't buy takeout food unless it's an event - we tend to choose a takeout meal for a family birthday meal.
This week we needed to shop our monthly household shopping, and I thought I'd show you what we bought - as well as our weekly meal plan.
I love reading what everyone else does to save money, do you?
This week, our meals are:
Main meals - Mushroom Risotto / Garlic Potatoes and Veggie Sausages / Veg Chilli / Pan Fried Salmon / Veg Cottage Pie / Veg Roast
Our small meals this week are salad with jacket potato - Man Wonderful adds Goat's cheese to his.
This is what we bought for our month's shopping (our fruit and veg are not bought from the supermarket):
. smoked paprika - I ran out before Christmas
. stock cubes - almost run out, and these were on offer. I bought mushroom flavour ones.
. fruit cordial - almost run out; grandkids like cordial
. tonic water - MW drinks this of an evening
. cup soup - since hospital I'm really enjoying these
. bleach - almost run out
. tuna - on offer, bought 2 x 4 cans
. baked beans - almost run out, bought 6 x cans
. toothbrushes
. hair dye
This is what I bought with my Christmas vouchers:
leggings for me
roasting dish - I broke one a few months ago and have been searching charity shops for one the right size for two of us.
. new nail varnish
Gifts for next Christmas (yes, I buy things all year on offer):
. 2 martini glasses
. large bamboo tray
. 5 different scent boxed candles
. large vase
I also treated myself to a new pair of glasses. I lost mine back in October - hooked on my top and walking home in heavy rain. When I got home the glasses were gone.... I had a spare pair, which I left out one day and the puppy chewed them to bits.... So I've been 'managing'.
In the supermarket I noticed there was a stand of reading glasses - I tried on a couple of pairs and found one that was perfect. £12. My original glasses had been over £200. Deal!!
They are purple; so far I've been able to read without a book almost on my face, and I'm blogging without issues.
What have you been up to? Do you Christmas shop all year round?
FMxx
I think we appreciate those 'special' meals so much more because they just are rare and special.
ReplyDeleteI sort of keep my eyes open for Christmas stuff through the year, especially gifts. xx
I've just been at home. I did some mending and cleaning and made chilli for dinner one night. The left-over chilli made a lovely topping for a home-made pizza the next night. I have also been using some fruit frozen in the summer to make deserts.
