Hair Maintenance

Being frugal to us means choosing cheaper options for items we use: I needed to replace a casserole dish not long ago as I broke ours. I looked around charity shops for a replacement, and asked chums if they might have one spare that we could have. Neither worked, so I looked online for local supermarkets, and found a half-price dish early in January. The perfect size for Man Wonderful and myself.

Life works best this way.

We live on a small income, and save up for things.

It was fun to look for our new dish rather than just shell out cash without thinking.

Anyhow.

For some time now I have been lucky to have free hair maintenance. One of the local hairdressers asked if I could support her daughter with tuition, and I have been. In return I've been having my hair dyed, cut, styled, etc..etc.

The daughter finished needing support at the end of 2023, so I spoke to the stylist and took back my own hairdressing.

Today I sat in the bath while hair colourant was setting, and am typing this with a t-shirt on my head, drying my hair.  All fun!!

Do you 'do' your own hair styling?

  1. No, going to the hairdressers is a lovely treat, and one I feel I deserve, it really doesn't hurt to have this treat 4 times a year, and know that I look presentable
I've only ever once dyed my own hair and it was an absolute disaster, I ended up spending a lot of money and wasting a lot of time having a 'plum' colour stripped out of my hair, (what was I thinking, putting it on, in the first place.) Lol I learned from that big mistake and have always said never again - so to me, you are very brave doing it yourself x Anne

  2. I have cut my own hair for years and just used 'Sun-In' to add highlights, which I was very happy with, but I have started to think that I need to go back to using a hairdresser. My hair is long, very thick and looks much better when layered. Rubbish Summers, reluctance to use a hairdryer and a change in hair texture and colour due to being 'a certain age' means the Sun-In no longer seems to be cutting the mustard. My daughter is getting married in the Autumn and it would be nice to have found a style I can live with by then, rather than turning up with an unruly oddly coloured mop on my head!

  3. I used to cut my own hair, back in the days when every penny was needed elsewhere. Now I go to a salon and pay slightly more than I would like to have it cut by the only hairdresser I've ever met who hasn't complained about my ridiculously fine hair.

  4. I stopped my expensive highlights during Covid and didn’t go to the hairdresser for two years. A few months ago I went short again and embraced my natural shade. Catriona
